May 8 Lester Young, with Denis Solee and the NJW All-Stars Saxophonist Lester Young, or "Prez" as he was known, was an important saxophonist of the swing and bebop eras. His cool, lyrical style was a major influence on players such as Zoot Sims and Stan Getz. Best known for his work with Count Basie and Billie Holliday, Young also appeared with some of the major bands of the 30's, 40's, and 50's. Saxophonist Denis Solee will lead a nine-piece group of all-star musicians in performing works associated with this jazz legend, and illustrating his style.
