Beginning April 16, I am excited to announce I will be teaching two classes at the Nashville Jazz Workshop. See below and follow the link for more information.

John Coltrane Ensemble
A class covering the history, repertoire and stylings of the Blue Note years. The ensemble performs transcriptions of some of Coltrane's most famous compositions. For Tenor, and Rhythm Section. Advanced level required.

Uptempo Tunes for Instrumentalists
Playing uptempo tunes seems to always be a challenge for any instrumentalist. Here is a chance to work on your chops by playing nothing but uptempo tunes for six weeks. Not only will it help your technique and improvisation skills, but you will also learn the tunes that are frequently called on the bandstand. The class will also work through different styles at fast tempos, such as sambas, waltzes and odd meters. A great class for the intermediate to advanced instrumentalist.

Two new reviews for the recording "Trading Post" are currently in publication. Please follow the link for the All About Jazz Review. The Jazz Times review is in the October 2009 edition. Please read below!

"While celebrating their Southerness, these four outstanding players-Memphis pianist Michael Jefry Stevens, Nashville saxophonist Don Aliquo, Nashville drummer Tom Giampietro and Mississippi bassist Jonathan Wires-are evry bit as delicate, sophisticated and interactively swinging as their Nortern counterparts. Highlights include a beautiful take on Andrew Hill's "ashes", Wires' flowing waltz-time "Out in the World", Aliquo's free-blowing "Chant" and his gorgeous ballad "Longing". This is meaningful and moving stuff by a first-rate crew of improvisers."
