A Tribute to Dexter Gordon, presented by Don Aliquo

Tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon was one of the most important tenor players of the 20th century. He cut his teeth playing with the innovators of the sound, including Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Max Roach, and others, and he became an inspiration to the next generation of players such as John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins. In the 1960's, he made a series of recordings on the Blue Note label which are considered classics of the era.

The program will be presented by one of Tennessee's premier saxophonists and jazz educators Don Aliquo. with help from fellow saxophonist Denis Solee and Bruce Dudley (piano), Brian Allen (bass), and Marcus Finnie(drums).

The programs take place on a series of Sunday afternoons. All performances are at 3:00 p.m. in the auditorium at the Frist Center.

This series is made possible by an Arts Builds Communities (ABC) grant from the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission. All performances in the series are free and open to the public.
